Below are a few of the most commonly reported pantry bugs requiring professional pest elimination. This list is not exhaustive and Markley's Pest Elimination Inc. encourages you to save a specimen for our technicians to identify to ensure your structure receives the correct treatment.

Indian Meal Moth -  Indian Meal Moths are small moths common in households. Their wings are mottled grey with bronze-colored tips. Their pupa are whitish and feed on grain, nuts, cereals, dried foods, fish, dog, & cat food and bird seed. The moth is active at night and attracted to light sources.

Control of the moth requires good sanitation and storage practices in all areas where food is kept. Containers must be tightly sealed. Food crumbs should be swept up and thrown away. Food items containing the moth's young need to be heat treated or discarded.

Confused Flour Beetle -  Confused Flour Beetles are small insects acheiving no more than 1/4 in in length that are brownish-red in color with conspicuous body segments and ridged wings. Confused Flour Beetles are so named because of their nearly identical resemblance to the Red Beetle (another common household pest). Unlike Red Beetles, Confused Flour Beetles cannot fly.

These insects are best controlled using clean sanitation and storage practices in all areas where food is kept. Containers must be tightly sealed. Food crumbs should be swept up and thrown away. Fod items containing the beetles larvae need to be heat treated or discarded.
